Safety is part of the room.

Small conversations help, but they are not enough on their own. Akin combines clear rules, member controls, careful product limits and human review.

The basic protections

  • Akin is for adults aged 18 and over.
  • Every post and reply can be reported.
  • Members can block an anonymous identifier without notifying that person.
  • A person reviews every report before a moderation decision is made.
  • Posting and replying are rate-limited to reduce spam and coordinated abuse.

What the four-person cap changes

One person starts a conversation and no more than three other people join. The cap reduces pile-ons and makes each participant more visible to the room.

The cap does not make harmful behaviour impossible. Reports, blocks, moderation and enforceable community rules remain necessary.

Reporting and blocking

Use the report action on a post or reply when it breaks the community guidelines. Choose the closest reason and add only the context the safety team needs.

Blocking removes that person’s posts and replies from your view. They are not told who blocked them.

Urgent situations

Akin is not an emergency, crisis, medical, legal or mental-health service. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Do not use Akin to identify, locate or confront another person. Reports involving credible threats or child sexual abuse material receive priority handling and may be referred to the appropriate authorities where legally required.

Moderation decisions

Depending on the conduct, Akin may remove content, warn a member, temporarily restrict participation or close an account. Serious or repeated violations may lead directly to removal.

Members can ask for a moderation decision to be reviewed through the moderation appeal page.
